We can ask Claude to quickly write the language for a pretty compelling major gift proposal. Or, we can ask Claude to take our major gift proposal and offer 3 different versions that highlight the donor’s known interests in 3 distinct ways.
We can ask ChatGPT to create a projected budget for next year’s advancement program, based on our historical spending and income. Or, we can ask ChatGPT to create 2 different pro forma budgets based on either adding two front-line fundraisers or keeping the same team in place with no additions.
Asking AI to do what we’ve always done and still can do – albeit more slowly – is a race toward the bottom. Yes, it may benefit us by giving us time back, but doesn’t direct benefit those we serve.
But, asking AI to do more than we’ve always done or to enhance what we can do leverages technology to add value to our work for those we serve.
