In our advancement work, we consistently focus on the process of and decisions surrounding giving.
We facilitate giving and gifts from donors. We guide donors on how their gifts might make the biggest difference that is meaningful to them. We thank donors for giving.
Clearly, the process and the decisions involved with giving are important to us and our work.
But the decision to let go must be made by the donor before any giving decisions can be made.
The willingness to let go is the foundational decision that must be made. If the donor is either in an accumulation or storing mindset, a decision to let go is much less likely.
Helping donors navigate the various giving decisions is important.
But, perhaps, we need to do more to help potential donors better understand the wisdom of letting go.
