When a donor makes a gift to support our mission, we think we are receiving it. Or, we think our students, or our patients, or our programs, or our participants, are receiving the gift.
We aren’t and they aren’t. Not really.
The real recipient of the gift is the donor who gave.
As human beings learn to let go and practice sharing with ease and good intention, they give themselves a medley of gifts that ripple positive, healthy effects across their physical, mental, spiritual lives. Deep, personal, and transforming effects.
It’s never about the gift. It’s about the giving. And the real recipients aren’t who we have been led to believe they are.
When we understand and embrace this fact, we become transformed in our work.
