We know that the acronym BOY (“Because of you”), is a compelling phrase in solicitations because it helps connect the prospective donor directly to the impact of the mission.
“Because of you, we were able to graduate more students like Lauren. . .”
“Because of you, we were able to help over 1,000 patients receive life-saving care. . .”
Because of you.
But, we don’t hear as much about another acronym, TOY (“Thinking of you”), that is just as compelling to use after a major gift has been given.
“Hi Sally, here is a picture of the new Nicu with our first babies. I immediately thought of you and your generosity to make this happen.”
“Here is a short video of the construction happening today on campus. Seeing the steel come out of the ground made me think of you and the many conversations we had about how incredible this project could be for our school.”
Thinking of you.
And the best part about using, “thinking of you,” with donors is that the more spur-of-the-moment and informal (and typically, the less expensive!) your message is, the better.
And, by the way, if this post was disappointing because it wasn’t about “boy toys,” please accept my apologies. . . but, I’m glad you read it, anyway.
