When you are the hiring decision-maker, you are wise to seek and receive input on the final candidates for the position from a variety of sources: people who will be colleagues with the new team member, people who will report to the new team member, donors who are close to your institution, etc.
Worth keeping in mind that everyone evaluates, at least partly, through of lens of, “how will this decision impact me?” For instance, someone who will report to the new team member may find more faults with a candidate who will push for higher goals or will hold people accountable to higher standards than are currently being accepted.
The point isn’t to stop seeking feedback on the finalists for positions that will report to you.
The point is to understand deeply what you are seeking in the new team member and to recognize what is motivating others to provide their feedback.
