Ideas and Execution

Posted on October 19, 2010 by Jason McNeal

Ideas are fun to generate and easy to deliver.  Everyone has ideas.  And most are willing to share their ideas on how things “should be done.”  Ideas are everywhere – not scarce at all.

On the other hand, executing is boring and hard work.  Execution is about getting results – meaningful results.  Good execution takes time, it takes practice, and it takes dedication.  Very unsexy stuff.  And much more scarce than ideas.

Scarcity increases value.  Extraordinary execution on average ideas reaps far greater results than average execution on extraordinary ideas.  Most advancement teams don’t need new ideas, they need more flawless execution.
