Top 5 Fundraising Truisms

Posted on October 30, 2009 by Jason McNeal

Recently, I was talking with a higher education president about fundraising truisms – those claims that are obvious but are regularly worth repeating as a reminder.

Here are my Top 5 Fundraising Truisms (in no particular order):

  • If you want money, ask for advice.  If you want advice, ask for money.
  • People give to people.
  • No one ever listened themselves out of a gift (credit:  Jerry Panas).
  • The number 1 reason people don’t give is because they weren’t asked.
  • People give when they believe you have needs.  People invest when they believe you meet needs.

Have a great Halloween all!
