A Life Well-Lived

Posted on August 15, 2025 by Jason McNeal

Today, the family and friends of Cal Stoney will remember and celebrate his life – one that, clearly, was “well-lived.”

I’m not sure we pause enough to think deeply about what that phrase should mean for us.  But, as I think of Cal’s life, I see suggestions for us all.

  • Seeking purpose and meaning – a life well-lived should mean that we seek purpose and meaning in ways that align with the values that we come to embrace.  Cal brought a thoughtful, philosophical approach to generosity and giving that our firm borrows from everyday.
  • Seeking joy and peace – a life well-lived should mean that we seek joy and peace, within ourselves and also with others.  Cal’s humor and brightness were regularly on display and quickly put others at ease.
  • Seeking to make a difference – a life well-lived should mean that we seek to impact others in positive and helpful ways – that we are additive and not decremental.  Cal’s professional and personal legacies are filled with stories of goodness, generosity, and deep care.

As one of our firm’s longest-serving business partners and friend, Cal’s life fully met this depiction.  I was honored to know him, to learn from him, and be influenced by his well-lived life.

Thank you, Cal.
