Consistency vs. Conviction

Posted on September 9, 2024 by Jason McNeal

It’s, actually, not much of a contest.

The depth of belief in the effectiveness of a strategy isn’t nearly as important as consistently implementing a strategy.

We can spend a lot of time convincing ourselves and others that a particular strategy is the “right/best” strategy. Perhaps because it is a strategy we proposed.  Or perhaps because we spent a lot of time planning the strategy.  Or perhaps we involved a lot of people in the brainstorming of the strategy.

But, if we want to get better advancement results over time, it’s less about believing we’ve identified the perfect strategy and far more about committing to consistently implement a strategy.

Traditions that people engage with enthusiastically are not viewed favorably because they are perfect.  They are viewed favorably because people have come to believe “this is what we always do.”
