Not fewer charitable gifts.
Not fewer givers or sponsors.
Not fewer charitable gift dollars.
But, we might be far better off intentionally seeking fewer goals and fewer metrics.
What significant difference does it make if the number of sybunts giving again this year is up, when the total number of donors is down?
What real help is it to know that the average gift amount is up, when both the total amount of charitable gift dollars and the total number of donors are down?
Just because we can generate a report, measure, and report on a variety of variables doesn’t mean it is worthwhile to do so.
The underlying health and productivity of any development program can be understood by consistently assessing the total number of donors, the total number of leadership annual giving donors, and the total amount of dollars raised.
When we spend time analyzing additional data, we should first start by asking why we are intentionally seeking more.
