Is It Worth To-Doing?

Posted on September 12, 2025 by Jason McNeal

Take a look at your work-related to-do list for today.

Rate each item with a 1, 2, or 3.  A rating of”1″ means the item has a direct connection to your annual goals.  When you complete these items, you are positively impacting the achievement of your annual goals.

A rating of “2” means the item has a more in-direct or tangential relationship to helping you achieve your annual goals.  It doesn’t have the same impact as a “1,” but it still helps you somehow toward your goal attainment.

A rating of “3” means the item is on your to-do list for another reason.  Maybe a supervisor asked you to take care of something outside of your position role.  Or, maybe, it’s something you enjoy doing, but the reality is that it doesn’t really relate to your annual goals.

Of course, we want to work on the items rated as “1’s” first.

But, here is another important observation:  If you have more items rated as a “3” than you do items rated as either a “1” or a “2,” you should ask yourself about the connection between your goals and your work.

Just because we are working hard, doesn’t mean that we are making the difference we are supposed to be making.
