“Explain your perspective on the proposed strategy to increase the number of first time donors?”
Perhaps, this is the most important question for younger advancement professionals to address.
Not, “what is the strategy?”
Not, “what do you think will work best?”
Not, “how efficiently can you get it completed?”
Not even, “how effective will it be?”
No – a far more important question is, “why?”
“Why are you proposing this strategy and not some other strategy?”
“What is your perspective?”
Having a perspective means that you own the strategy. That you have a broader – perhaps even philosophical – understanding of why a particular approach is the one you should go with.
Having a perspective means that you understand the work and the broader outcomes related to volunteerism, generosity, and human connectedness we really are aiming to achieve.
Having a perspective means you are growing.
