The Problem With Perfect

Posted on May 22, 2024 by Jason McNeal

It’s not that perfect doesn’t exist (it doesn’t, of course).

It’s that perfect doesn’t exist, yet we act and talk as if it does.

We spend too much time reviewing and finalizing that direct mail letter because we are seeking the perfect message.

We take too long to set up the visit with that great donor prospect because we are concerned we don’t have the perfect reason to convince them to meet with us.

We procrastinate because we are fearful that the end result will not be perfect.

The concept of being perfect causes us to miss opportunities and not give our best efforts.

Far better to talk about and act in alignment with doing our best.

Perfection is imaginary. Better to accept that and focus instead on what is real.

Usually, our authentic best is more than enough.
